Full Moon Party
So, when we started planning our trip, we weren't sure which Thai islands to hit up – there are soooo many to choose from and they all have their pros and cons. We fell into Koh Samui and also Koh Phangan and decided to stay four nights on the later. We found a beautiful resort, the Santhiya, with a pretty good price for a two bedroom with a private infinity pool overlooking the ocean. So, we booked it.
We also quickly discovered that the WORLD FAMOUS Full Moon Party was happening. On that island. When we were there. Sure it happens once a month, but still...kismet perhaps? HA!
We had to go.
We had no choice.
This will be part of our Thailand experience. No question.
None of us have ever been to anything like this in our lives. I went to the big Mardi Gras Party in Sydney my first year there, but nothing will ever, or honestly CAN ever, compare to the night we experienced on Koh Phangan. It's one of the absolutely biggest parties in the world. Famous for drinks in BUCKETS, fire lit jump ropes, mushroom milkshakes, people getting absolutely blitzed – and we were there to witness it all. And partake a bit. But mostly to watch and take it all in. Quite freeing actually. I saw a whole new side of Tim as we danced to our hearts content on the beach. And VERY fun. You haven't lived until you've ordered a gin and tonic, in a bucket of course because that's all they have, that comes with the obligatory concentrated RED BULL in it. But, we left around 2am – the perfect time. This rager goes on all night and then some, and it started to take a turn around then. We hopped our private water taxi home, I lost my bunny ears in the ocean, and the rest is history.
