Final Day In Thailand...For Now

Final Day In Thailand...For Now

It's our last day in Bangkok before leaving Thailand – for a bit at least. We are heading to Myanmar for a week – Bangkok to Mandalay direct flight. Then after our week in Myanmar (aka Burma), we come back into Thailand to the north into Chiang Mai.

Bangkok – we've seen your sights. We've eaten some amazing food. We've shopped. We need another day to chill out. As we've said before, these days become important to us when traveling for so long. So, we had some breakfast, got some coffees, and did some writing and reading in our room. Perfect day.

For dinner, we went on a bit of a hunt for different restaurants, from the guide Where Chefs Eat. Made our way across town in our Uber to check out Raan Jay Fai, who Martha Stewart calls the best cook in Thailand, to sample her gloriously heralded noodles. We got there only to find that Raan was closed for a week on holiday – good for you Raan. I'm sure you deserve a holiday. Not so good for us!

We found WiFi at the local backpackers (and a beer) and got Uber to take us all the way across town, almost an hour (for about $5!), to find restaurant number two – Opposite Mess Hall – which was also closed...for GOOD. Ugh.

But luckily another recommended spot from Where Chefs Eat was within walking distance – Soi 38 Night Market. And it delivered. Was perfect to be having local street market food for our last night here actually. Lovely old man served us some pork that was to die for. Then we hit some of the stalls for spicy salads and noodles and other yumminess.

And then it was time to say good night and good bye to Bangkok. We leave extra early in the morning. At first we weren't so sure about you Bangkok, but the more time we spent with you, the more we got beneath the crazy exterior to find some of the truly meaty and heart warming bits of your interior. Just goes to show you, don't judge a book by its cover.

Get in there and get to the meaty bits.
