Phi Phi Viewpoint And More

Good morning from Phi Phi!

Yes, we slept in our hut over the water. Was heavenly listening to the waves crashing below. It is also the very hot season, so a fan through mosquito netting didn't quite cut it. Hot hot hot. But, absolutely glad we did it. Just maybe not so much on the amazing night sleep.

We all agreed to set our alarm early to watch the 5:45am sunrise from our huts. Glorious.

After a bit more sleep, the girls were off on a hike to the viewpoint, which is supposed to have spectacular views. Tim and I were still sleeping and I think, half asleep, I said no, no, you go. Something to that effect.

Well, then I was up. And Tim was OUT. I nudged him a few times but nothing. So, I threw on my hiking clothes and decided to catch up to the girls. And boy was this a steep climb – yowza! About twenty minutes in, I came across Anne and Meredith taking a breather from the uphill battle that the three of us, now together, were tackling.

Over an hour later, we made it to the top, drenched in sweat and weary from our hike. Then, only to discover we needed about a dollar each to get in!!!! No one told us this?! AND NONE OF US HAD MONEY. Not a cent. Or a Baht, if you will. And the woman at the gate would not budge – she spoke and understood very little English, but she sure understood "no money" and could say "no entry."

Luckily, some tourists were kind enough to float us the ninety thousand Baht and we were able to enter. Whew! That would have been a miserable walk back down without getting the payoff at the top!

And what a payoff it was...just stunning.

Aaaaaand back down the mountain we go to our little piece of paradise...

The girls decided to take the resort boat into town to shop, eat, drink and explore. Tim and I decided to stay back and relax, swim and relax some more. And of course nap in the hammock on the balcony of our hut. And a bit of blogging!

Oh heeeeyyyy Mr. Tim!

Before we knew it, five hours were gone and it was time for our little boat into town to meet the girls for drinks and dinner. Beautiful light in the late afternoon. Was a stunning ride in to the main strip.

We made some friends on the ferry ride over, bonding over drunk party goers and overall ridiculous people. We found some sanity in Ryan and Sandra on that ferry and ended up running into them that night, had some drinks and then dinner together. They are from Africa but currently live in Hong Kong and soon-to-be moving to Switzerland. Great people and we had a great night out!

Time to water taxi back to our little slice of paradise. Mere's negotiating powers were in full force and we got our water taxi at the price we wanted. I think. Who knows in the end. We made it home and tucked ourselves into out huts for the night. Nighty night!

Get Thee To Santhiya!
